Case Description
I did use the mouthwash prescribed, but when I went yesterday to have my dentist look at my widom tooth that was hurting he gave me a tube of floride to use called PerioCheck with 0.4% stannous fluroide. He said that this may do the trick. I did use the prescription mouthwash for almost 1 1/2 months before this wisdom tooth with the deep cavity was filled. Yesterday he also did have me bite down on paper to check the bite I guess. I don't know why my dentist has suggested the root canal on a wisdom tooth. They did recommend that I have a cleaning every 3 months, which I do agree is necessary.
Can you tell me what you recommend and how will I know if I need to have it pulled will the pain increase if the root is dying?
I really appreciate your advice as I know nothing about these kinds of things.

If the dentist checked your bite with paper, and did not discover that the tooth was hitting too hard, more than likely, the dentist''''s first diagnosis is correct. It appears that you have an infected wisdom tooth. Even though it is a third molar, which are often removed, it is obviously hitting against another tooth, providing you a grinding surface to chew food. Whether you elect to save the tooth or not depends on how valuable it is to you. I imagine that it will cost close to $2000 to save it with a root canal and crown. I should add that of all the teeth in the mouth, wisdom teeth are generally not as important as those closer to the front of your mouth.I hope this information helps. Darrell
